UCI Road Cycling Championships

September 2022 saw PRM travel down to Wollongong NSW for the UCI World Cycling Championships. This is event is considered part of cycling’s triple crown – the other two being the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia – and hosted around 25 teams from all over the world. PRM’s role for the event was multi-faceted and, in parts, challenging due to the fast-moving action of cycling. PRM were responsible for coordinating frequencies between the host broadcasters, local and international news media, entertainment, and corporate hospitality at Lang Park. Additionally, PRM worked with all the international cycling teams to ensure that their two-way radios that travel with the teams were correctly licensed for Australia and programmed correctly. While most of the activity centered around the Wollongong City Centre, the Elite Women’s Road Race (164km) and Elite Men’s Road Race (267km) started at Helensburgh which is approximately 30km north of Wollongong. To facilitate this remote start, PRM deployed a spectrum coordinator with a portable monitoring system to coordinate the spectrum being used by the broadcasters and ENG crews.
